Have you noticed that the Bridgeville Police Department is really, really good at Facebook these days?
It was fourteen months ago today that the department launched its Facebook page. The beginning was quiet enough—a photo of a uniform patch, a picture of police cars, and then a message saying hello.

But it didn’t take long for the department to start firing on all cylinders. Since then, borough has solved crimes thanks to Facebook posts, returned lost dogs to their owners, and alerted residents to car crashes (and other traffic oddities) in near-real time.

Many small, community police departments have Facebook pages, and many do a fine job of posting updates for the community.
But Bridgeville’s department has really found a social media sweet spot by combining extremely useful information with clever images and a distinct sense of humor.
